For many people there is a large gap between what they expect from their Christian faith and what they actually experience. From a steady diet of books, sermons, and personal testimonies, all promising triumph and success, they learn to expect dramatic evidence of God working in their lives. When they do not see such evidence, they feel disappointment, betrayal, and often guilt. In his book Disappointment with God: Three Questions No One Asks Aloud, author Philip Yancy does not so much offer answers but different ways of thinking about this perfectly normal problem of being disappointed with God. In two hybrid sessions, on October 12 and 26 Ryan LaHurd will explore Yancy’s main ideas about the three questions no one asks (Is God hidden? Is God silent? Is God unfair?) and will lead a discussion of Yancy’s arguments. The presentation will assume attendees have not read the book.
