Forum - God: Figuratively Speaking

  • Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 1218 West Addison Street Chicago, IL, 60613 United States (map)

Though God is a mystery and beyond the limits of human language, we use a myriad of titles and metaphors for God found in scripture, church history, poems, and hymn texts. Come for a fascinating exploration of language for God, especially language for the three persons of the Trinity in light of contemporary understandings of theology, gender, and science. You will also learn about Holy Trinity’s use of expansive and inclusive language in the liturgy. Much material will be from Gail Ramshaw’s new book, Mystery Manifest: the Triune God, Figuratively Speaking which you are welcome to read if you’d like to go deeper.
